my neuro 'disorder': synesthesia

MONDAY - Olafur Eliasson
TUESDAY - James Turrell
WEDNESDAY - James Turrell
THURSDAY - James Turrell
FRIDAY - James Turrell
SATURDAY - Anish Kapoor
SUNDAY - James Turrell
All my life I thought that all of us saw colours automatically when hearing words. Then again, I was born with it, so I couldn't imagine people seeing nothing when hearing or reading words.
Recently I found out that this unvoluntary mixing senses is less common than I thought, it's an extraordinary connection in the brain, which is called synesthesia.

I have this synesthesia most clearly with the days of the week. When I hear or read the word 'Saturday' I see a large red circle. 'Friday' has squares and is greyish violet.
In the work of my favorite artists Anish Kapoor, James Turrell and Olafur Eliasson I found photo's of the days of the week, like I see them in my inner colour world.

Tell me, are there more synesthetes outthere?
Do you see any colour when you hear a sound? Do you see black and white letters in different colours, do you taste chocolate when hearing particular music (some people do!). I would love to hear about it!

I wish you all a great, relaxing and sunny Blue Square today ;-)

April 2. 2015: There's a free app from the Nijmegen University to test if you are a synesthetic! It's called SynQuiz, it's in English, just takes a few minutes and it's great fun! You can read all about the research here. (thanks Monica for sharing!).

Jurianne for VT-wonen

Tomorrow a huge pallet with thousands of specially designed black and white paper products will arrive at the VT-Wonen warehouse.
Next to being one of the best dutch interior magazines, VT-Wonen sells a wonderful collection of interior stuff like paint, kitchens, ceramics, textiles, furniture and now Jurianne for VT-Wonen paper designs too!

It is a collection of 4 different products, everything pre-cut and pop-out and with a little DIY-touch!

- a bunting of 15 leaves,
- a bunch of 19 (spirograph) flowers
- a home garland (with 3-d houses, chairs and teapots)
- a set of 3 large lanterns (A4-size)

They are now for sale at the VT-Wonen-shop

It was great working in black and white only. It took me out of my comfort zone. That's why I love working for other companies: they make me take new roads!

I have been doing another project too, I'll tell you about that soon...

sääpäiväkirja - weather diary

Never mind if you can't pronounce it (like me). Just take a look at this latest Marimekko collection, called Weather Diary, designed by Aino-Maija Metsola.
I was kind of in shock when I first saw it: this is the 2013 answer to all the sweet children prints, the minty geometric patterns, the hard graphic lines: this is new and deep and really awesome!
Marimekko has guts and knows how to stand out in the crowd!
